Gabriele DiDiodato

Obituary of Gabriele Berardo DiDiodato

With great sadness, the family of Gabriele DiDiodato announce his passing.  He was born in Minto, New Brunswick on February 29, 1948 to the late Benedetto and Algisa DiDiodato and passed away in Saint John, New Brunswick on March 27, 2024 following a short illness.

Gab will be deeply missed by his brother John DiDiodato, sisters Eva and Marcella DiDiodato, sister-in-law Laurie DiDiodato; nephews Robert (Nancy) DiDiodato, James (Roz) DiDiodato, David (Marie-Ève) DiDiodato, Brian (Adriana) DiDiodato; nieces Gina DiDiodato, Margot (Calvin) Rankin, Gloria DiDiodato, their families; and several cousins.

Gab was also predeceased by his brother Franco DiDiodato, sister-in-law Neta DiDiodato, and infant nephew Peter DiDiodato.

After graduating from the New Brunswick Community College as an Electronic Repair Technician in 1970, Gab began working with Phillips in Toronto. He later returned to settle down in his home town of Minto. When word got out about his repair talent his veranda quickly filled up with televisions and radios in need of repair from around the community from which he earned a living providing repair services.

Gab had the patience and tenacity to tackle tedious projects that would be unconsidered by most. He was no stranger to hard work and made the completion of maintenance and repair projects around the homestead a top priority. Gab enjoyed the simple things. Remarkably, he went through his adult life without having an enemy or adversary. Despite his imposing size and physique, he was as gentle as they come and kind-hearted.  He would always lend a helping hand where needed especially with family without looking for anything in return. Gab would never miss a weekly gathering with his sisters over an exquisite spaghetti and pasta meal prepared by his sister Eva where he was known to have a hearty appetite that was well appreciated.

The family is thankful and appreciative of the exceptional medical care he received by the responding EMT’s, doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, and Neurological ICU at the Saint John Regional Hospital.

Visitation will take place April 3rd from 5:00 - 7:00pm with a funeral service at 11am at Holy Rosary Catholic Parish Church in Minto on April 4th.  Interment will take place at Saint Bridget’s Cemetery at a later date. Personal condolences can be made through www.hoggfunerals.ca .
